Bite of a Big Apple

Somewhere in the last 22 years, my older brother’s life and mine have completely diverged. I went down to NYC this past weekend to visit and spend a few days doing what he does.

It involves a lot of drinking, hours of brunching with friends, nights that last until 4am regularly, and somehow fitting in 70-80 hour work weeks. He definitely lives the male equivalent to Sex and the City.

It was such a fun weekend but I was also ready to come back home after just a couple of nights, further establishing the fact that I’m not a city girl at heart. I like air, and grass, and familiar faces.

But I did do one thing that felt like home while I was there….

Dropped into Crossfit Hoboken (where Tim lives). Yup, definitely the girl who somehow gets in a workout on a 2 day vacation. But this was less about the actual workout and more about experiencing a new environment, meeting a few people into the same stuff as I, and just another way to squeeze more fun into a day. PR, new T shirt, and some endorphins to start the day… crossfit is good for that.

So despite being a little overwhelmed by the city, being with my brothers was well worth the trip entirely. We  tried Cuban food, brunched for hours and drank bloody mary’s, played flag football surrounded by sky scrapers, passed time on a rooftop, got late night coffees and shots of 5 hour energy, and managed a littleee sleep in the city that doesn’t.

.

Big city or grass and air?

Did you happen to try cuban food at La Isla in Hoboken? They have the BEST stuffed french toast there on their breakfast menu. My brother used to live there too and that was my excuse for visiting many times ;)

can’t remember the name, right across from the path station. Great food but of course I just got steak, nothing too out of the ordinary.

I think a mix. I want land but I want to have a T close by – 20minutes to the city or less – but also a place to garden/build a snowman… We actually talk about this often as our next move will be a house… Hoping a suburb very close to Boston!

What a great experience! How cool that you have someone that you can visit to experience a place like New York City.
Though I completely understand where you’re coming from, saying you were ready to go home when you did. Whenever I visit big cities it reaffirms my love for the country/suburbs/rural area. I just can’t keep up with the hustle and bustle. I like to take things slow every once and a while, step outside, and be a part of the landscape.

Grass, air, and familiar faces… yes MAM! While growing up, I was determined to live in the big city and live this fast and wonderful life… once I got there, I hated it. I am back in the “grass, air, and familiar faces” and I love it!

I don’t mind visiting the big city once and a while and having fun, but this girl needs to live in the country with the fresh air and grass.
