It’s not a secret to anyone in my life that two of my biggest passions are photography and crossfit. I’m mediocre at both, but my skills and confidence grow every time I pick up my camera or step into my box. And just like in crossfit where I can look back at old numbers a times and feel good about how far I’ve come, I can do the same with old photographs.
This past weekend I was able to combine these two passions while watching my friends compete in a local competition. Here are a few of my favorites…
Sport photography is still new and intimidating to me because of how uncertain everything can be. Food photography is very safe, staged, and easy to manipulate. With events and action shots you never know what kind of lighting it will be, what position you can be in to get the shots, or what the subjects will really be doing. It pushes me in a different direction and stretches my skills.
Sometimes I look back in my workout log and am equally amazed and humbled. I can remember thinking how strong and fast I felt at the time and the truth is, at that time I was the strongest and fastest I knew how to be. And then I grew.
With my photography I also look back and feel amazed and humbled. What is important in both, or any hobby or skill is that we keep pushing and growing and learning from where we’ve come. That we look back and feel proud of how much we have grown and humbled knowing how much more there is always to learn.

What hobbies or skills keep you humble?

I think your photos are amazing…you should give yourself more credit.
Im going to try cross fit for the first time next week. Im so excited!
have so much fun!! and good for you.
Thanks….Im super excited but a little scared at the same time. I might not be able to move!!!! Keep up the good work with your own workouts and photography. These pics are so inspiring!
These are crazy powerful. The shot of the woman doing a pull-up…wow. You seriously should submit that for something.
I feel continually humbled by ballet. Oh man, no matter how graceful or powerful I’m feeling that day, a few minutes at the barre sets me straight again. But in a good way! I love the continual challenge.
Fitness is humbling! But improving every week is what keeps me going back for me. Crossfit- how I love thee.
you are absolutely NOT mediocre at both! give yourself a little more credit
fitness is definitely humbling though, i’m always trying my best to beat myself hahah
These came out awesome. I actually got my start in Photography and Crossfit by being the CrossFit Providence photographer. It got so time consuming and stressful for me (as I had stopped CrossFitting) but it was such an amazing opportunity to photograph movement and feeling. Your photos are beautiful and full of that emotion that only CF brings. Remind me again why we haven’t joined forces yet?
I love the emotion of the woman doing the pullup, and love the composition and feel of the first picture~really cool shots Katie! I think you’re improving every time if I’m not blind.
And I’m not great at any of them but love them and I feel like I’m “decent”, but cooking and exercising are def. hobbies for me, and although I suck at photography it’s still a hobby because I enjoy it
